Therapy Intensives:
Deep, Focused Healing in a Shorter Timeframe
Grounded in Internal Family Systems, designed for lasting transformation.
A therapy intensive is an in-depth, focused approach to healing. Instead of weekly sessions, you’ll have a dedicated half-day or multi-day experience, allowing us to go deeper without the usual interruptions of daily life. These extended sessions allow for real momentum—so you can move through what’s holding you back with care and support.Intensives aren’t just “longer sessions”—they are structured to support deep work in a contained, intentional way.
In weekly therapy, part of each session is spent reconnecting, and opening back up. In an intensive, we stay in that open, connected state, allowing the work to unfold on a deeper level more quickly. This format creates space for insight, processing, and meaningful shifts that might take weeks or months in traditional therapy.Whether you're facing a specific challenge or simply want to immerse yourself in self-exploration, this format offers a powerful alternative to ongoing therapy.
Accelerate Your Healing
An intensive therapy session is carefully structured to support deep emotional and psychological work while maintaining a strong container of safety and containment. Even though the work is immersive and goes into deep territory, there are clear boundaries, a steady pace, and constant guidance to ensure that everything happens within a safe, supportive environment. The structure helps us stay grounded and focused, so you can explore without fear of getting overwhelmed. We’ll always make sure that you feel heard, held, and connected throughout the experience.
A Safe Container For Deep Work
Each therapy intensive is uniquely tailored to your needs while following a structured process designed to support deep healing. Offered exclusively by Dr. Rebecca Dempster, these sessions are grounded in Internal Family Systems therapy, with additional approaches integrated as needed to best support your journey.
Here’s how the process unfolds:
What Happens in an Intensive?
Pre-Intensive Session
We’ll have a 90-minute session a week or two prior to the intensive. This session is dedicated to establishing the container for our work, setting clear goals, and preparing you mentally and emotionally for the journey to come. We’ll explore any concerns you may have, answer questions, and provide space for preliminary insights.
If you are a new client, we'll have an assessment session prior to the pre-intensive session to ensure that this approach is right for you and fits with your goals.
Intensive Session
The heart of the intensive involves in-depth therapy using Internal Family Systems to explore different parts of you and bring healing to emotional wounds and burdens. The intensive will include our agreed-upon number of session hours, across a half day or multiple days.During this time, we’ll explore key areas of your life, diving into your emotional landscape with the necessary care and pace to avoid overwhelm. The container of the intensive allows us to stay in an open state throughout, so we can make meaningful progress and gain deeper insight into the areas you want to address. We’ll work at a pace that feels right for you, with plenty of space for reflection, emotional release, and growth.
Integration Session
After the intensive, we'll have a follow-up session to focus on integrating the shifts and insights that emerged. This space will allow you to explore any parts that might need extra attention after the deep work. Using IFS, we'll help you continue to connect with your internal system and take practical steps forward. It’s also an opportunity to explore how the work can continue to unfold, either through additional sessions or other support in your healing journey. This session is a vital part of the process, ensuring that the work remains meaningful and rooted in your day-to-day life.

Who Can Benefit from a Therapy Intensive?
There are different reasons that people might choose a therapy intensive. If any of these apply to you, you may find it helpful to work in this way.
You’re Ready for Deeper Exploration
Intensives are ideal for those who feel ready to dive deeper into their healing journey. If you’ve been working through something in traditional therapy but are ready to explore it more intensively, a focused, immersive approach can offer the space to go deeper without the interruptions of daily life.
You’re in a Time of Transition or Crisis
If you're navigating a major life transition—whether it's a career change, a relationship shift, or dealing with grief—a therapy intensive offers dedicated time to process these big life changes. It’s a safe space to explore how these shifts impact your mental and emotional well-being.
You’re Looking for Accelerated Progress
For those who want faster results, intensives allow you to work through issues at a more rapid pace. If you’ve been feeling stuck or frustrated with slower progress in weekly sessions, an intensive offers a chance to break through those barriers more quickly.
You Prefer a Concentrated Experience
Some people thrive in a more immersive environment, where they can fully focus on their mental and emotional health. If the idea of moving away from the typical weekly pace appeals to you and you’re looking for something more intense and transformative, an intensive is a great fit.
You Have Limited Time or Energy for Ongoing Weekly Therapy
For those who may have limited time or energy for a weekly commitment but still want deep, transformative therapy, an intensive offers the chance to address your concerns in a concentrated time frame—without the need for ongoing weekly sessions.
You’ve Experienced Complex Trauma
If you've lived through complex trauma and find it difficult to make steady progress in weekly sessions due to interruptions in your emotional or mental processing, an intensive might be the right fit. Complex trauma can make it hard to connect and stay in a “healed” state during regular sessions, but the immersive nature of an intensive allows for deeper processing without the time and emotional gaps that can slow things down in weekly therapy. This focused approach helps you remain in a connected, open state, allowing you to make progress that might take much longer in a more fragmented weekly setting.

Common Questions about Therapy Intensives
-
It depends on your goals and how you process. Many people find that the deep, uninterrupted time of an intensive allows for insights and breakthroughs that might take much longer in weekly therapy.
-
Intensives can be a powerful way to do deep work, but they may not be the best fit for everyone. They might not be suitable if you:
- Are experiencing severe dissociation and need more grounding between sessions.
- Tend to use avoidance strategies and benefit from more time between sessions.
- Struggle with emotional overwhelm and find longer sessions too intense.
- Are looking for a quick fix rather than deep, sustained work.
- Prefer the slower, steady pace of weekly therapy. If you’re unsure whether an intensive is right for you, I’m happy to talk it through with you. just send me a message.
-
While each intensive follows a general three-phase structure—preparation, deep work, and integration—the content and pacing are highly customizable. We’ll tailor the approach to your specific needs, whether you want to focus on trauma, life transitions, or something else. If you need more sessions, breaks, more processing time, or a specific approach, we can adapt the process to suit you.
-
Yes! If a half-day or full-day intensive doesn't work for you but you still want an immersive experience, we can meet for daily sessions over a week or two-week period. This structure creates the same momentum without the need to carve out a full day at a time.
